Charisms have a triple function within the church: first, they have a transforming effect on the persons
who receive them; second, they bear witness to the nature of the Church; and third, they embody the
various ways in which the Spirit functions in time.
The La Salette Apparition, message, history, spirit, and spirituality have made — and continue making
— their mark on the life of the Church with significant effect. In a broad sense, we can consider the La
Salette Apparition as a charism.
The action of the Holy Spirit is manifest in the charisms which mark the community and ministry of
each religious community. Our La Salette Congregation is animated first and foremost by the Spirit of
Jesus Christ. The charism is a gift of the Spirit that accentuates the depths of one specific aspect of the
mystery of God in Christ.
Our charism as La Salettes is reconciliation, as expressed and rooted in the message of Our Lady of La
Salette. Along with the Church at large, we respond to St. Paul’s invitation to live out our ministry, our
